double looping around
the Hochbrücke Baden

«  |

A request to create an oil painting does not come every day. And not every topic would fit the painter's interest. But as soon as "it should have something to do with technique, preferably with aviation" it suited very well ...

Suddenly an old story came to Heiner Fierz' mind of which he was not sure whether he dreamt it as a child or whether it was true. A pilot passed under the big bow of the Baden bridge Hochbrücke!

True story or invention?

The answer brought Mr Wildi, sight seeing historian in the city of Baden, who was able to confirm, that 1927 Hans Suter, photographer and military pilote, even did a double looping around the bridge. The airplane was supposed to be a Dewoitine. With this information a picture of the model Dewoitine C19 (1919) could be found on the Web, three of which had been ordered by Switzerland. Did Suter celebrate the inauguration of the bridge – one of the first ones built with concrete? – Fierz' mother, born in Dättwil/Baden, was 5 years old at that time!
